England || Premier League – Mohamed Salah [Egypt] – 121 Goals

This title was previously held by Chelsea and Ivorian legend Didier Drogba. However, the ‘Egyptian King’ recently surpassed the feat achieved by the Ivorian to become the all-time top African goal-scorer in the English Premier League on October 24, 2021, while playing for Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah came to English football as a Chelsea player but saw his earlier spell in the league with Chelsea to be a tough one and subsequently shipped out on loan but later made his journey back to EPL with Liverpool his employee this time.

The four-time African best player Eto’o started his club career in La Liga at Real Madrid as a youngster. However, his time at the Spanish capital was short-lived as he made only three league appearances for the Whites. At that time, Eto’o spent most of his time away on loan at Leganes and Espanyol.

Moreover, a permanent move to Mallorca in the January of 2000 for a fee of €4.5 million would go to prove a game changer for the Cameroonian. The hitman scored 54 goals in 133 games for the Balearics and won the Copa del Re before making an audacious €27 million move to Barcelona in 2004.

Samuel Eto’o immediately hit the ground running at Camp Nou, scoring countless goals for the Catalans as he formed a formidable partnership with the likes of Ronaldinho, Lionel Messi, and Thierry Henry. Eto’o, who is also Cameroon’s record goalscorer won three La Liga titles with Barcelona.

Germany || Bundesliga – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang [Gabon] – 98 Goals.

Despite Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s exploits with Arsenal and FC Barcelona in the recent years, the Gabonese is best known for his time in the German Bundesliga where he made name with Borussia Dortmund.

Starting his club career in France and then Italy, the African superstar joined Borussia Dortmund in 2013. The sensational striker would go on to spend the next five years at the German club where he became a resolute rival for then Bayern Munich’s forward Robert Lewandowski.

Aubameyang won the Golden Boot in Bundesliga in the 2016/17 season with an impressive 31 goals in 32 games. The Gabon international then surpassed ex-Eintracht Frankfurt and Ghana star Tony Yeboah to become the top-scoring African star in Bundesliga history with in December 2017. Before making his switch to the Premier League, Auba ended his Bundesliga career with 98 strikes.

Italy || Serie A – George Weah [Liberia] – 46 Goals

George Weah is the current president of Liberia and the only African footballer to win the Ballon d’Or to date. The Liberian spent four seasons with AC Milan in Italy, where he managed 46 goals and 33 assists in 114 league appearances.

With Weah being in the ranks at AC Milan, the Italian giant won two Serie A titles. After his exploits in the Italian football, George Weah had spells with Chelsea, Manchester City, Marseille, and Al-Jazira before hanging up his boots in 2003 at the age of 37.

France || Ligue 1 – Mamadou Niang [Senegal] – 100 Goals

Niang, a former Senegal international spent the major part of his career in France. He started at Troyes before moving to Strasbourg and Marseille where he became prolific and later winning the Ligue 1 title with Marseille.

The former Senegalese striker even finished as Ligue 1’s top scorer in 2009/10 season and won four titles at Marseille. After his exploits in France, Niang later had spells with Fenerbahce, Al Said, Besiktas, and Arles-Avignon before his retirement in 2016.
